The Lake District (1955)
20 minutes - Colour

A still from the 1963 BTF Catalogue.

For some, the English Lake District is the shrine at which pilgrims still pay their respect to Wordsworth and his fellow-poets. For others it is a national park in which mountain-climbing, fell-walking, sailing, fishing, and canoeing are only a few of the sports that can be enjoyed in ideal surroundings. But for all the many holiday-makers who come to this region of mountains and lakes there will always remain clearly in the memory the kindly and independent people of the hills and the traditions and customs they have inherited from their Viking forbears. The commentary is spoken by Michael Redgrave.
