Retard And Advance (1966)
15 minutes - Colour

The development and application of the Dowty system and automatic wagon speed control in railway hump marshalling yards, such as Tinsley near Sheffield. With this equipment the speed of each wagon is controlled throughout the movement by retarders and boosters which sense the speed of the vehicle and retard or accelerate it to the ideal speed for the vehicle and for the section of the yard which it has to transverse. This system has virtually eliminated damage to goods and wagons during marshalling yard operations.
