This film explains a new concept in the control of diesel and electric locomotives, both in traffic and maintenance, which had then recently been put into practice on the London Midland Region. Centralised control and records, and a drastic reduction, in the number of locomotive depots combine with the use of new equipment and methods to bring locomotive deployment and maintenance into line with the requirements of a modern locomotive fleet.
