The Railway Technical Centre at Derby exists to apply science to the practical problems arising from a changing railway system which has its roots in the past; to take a fresh look at engineering and operating methods and materials with a view to their betterment, and in so doing improve the commercial and social status of the railways. Moreover, the Technical Centre and all those working there can be of service to industry all over the world.
