On May 7th 1974 the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh travelled by train from Preston to Glasgow over the newly electrified line. This is a film record of the occasion.

Additional Information - Steven Foxon (Screenonline): A 'record shoot' filmed to cover the Royal opening of the Northern sections of the West Coast Main Line Electrified route. Filmed mainly as a small 'pat on the back' for British Rail, it basks in the glory of a sense of achievement. The film concentrates on the opening speeches and looks at the lengths and measures taken for the Royal occasion.
