The 1955 Crash Site in 2004

Brookside Farm as seen from Mill Lane - 18th April 2004.
The road leads up to the main road junction with the B6051 and Millthorpe Lane.
The crash site was to the rear of the farmhouse and to the left,
the demolished buildings now forming part of a private garden

Visitors to Mill Lane in Millthorpe today could not possibly comprehend the scene of devastation that would have greated their arrival at the same spot almost 50 years earlier as they walked down the peaceful sleepy lane towards the ford across Millthorpe Brook.

The crash site seen just a few yards down Mill Lane on the right hand side as you walk towards the ford.
The
demolished barn was located where the garden at the back of the green trellis fence is now.
It may just be possible to see a culvert that was built to channel the water course that once ran through
the stacking yard area of the farm which has long since been in operation.
How this scene must have looked on the 12th May 1955

The final resting place of Pilot Officer Tritton in Retford Road Cemetery, Worksop.
Bob's grave (front right) is part of a group with eight young RAF colleagues
who were also killed in the mid-1950s, presumably in plane crashes.
